JOHN EVERITT "JACK" HIXON
10/8/45 - 11/12/02
Jack was born in Valpariso, Florida, and was the son of William Petty and Roberta
Knowles Hixon. He attended Pensacola High School, graduated from Pensacola Junior
College and attended the University of West Florida.
He loved radio and was employed by several local radio stations, including WCOA AM
and WJLQ FM, and most recently, by WBSR AM radio. He also worked briefly for Circle
K while he began to build his audio preservation business.
He was a Viet Nam veteran, serving on the USS Chara. Jack was a member of the
Pensacola Lions Club where he served as Treasurer, Vice President and President,
and was the club's newsletter editor. He was an active member of the First
Presbyterian Church, where he served as an Elder and a member of the Worship
Committee. Jack also recorded the Sunday morning worship service for later broadcast
on WBSR.
He is survived by his wife, Joan Purcell Hixon, two stepsons, John Clinton Morris
of Los Angeles, CA, and David Michael Morris of Atlanta, GA; sister, Elisabeth
"Betty" Stuart and husband, George and their children, Ann Elisabeth (Sean) Samson,
Kathryn, Caroline and George L Stuart of Orlando, Fl; a brother Frank Hixon and
wife, Janet and their children, Brian and Robert, of Fairhope, AL. He is also
survived by cousins Robert "Bob" Gunn and wife, Charlie, of Slidell, LA; Richard
Sasnett and wife "Trish", of Augusta, GA; Sam Sasnett and wife, Sally, of Alexandria,
VA.; and Cornelia Spangler and husband, Frank, of Montgomery, AL, and Frank Knowles,
Jr., & wife, Betty of Montgomery, AL.
A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 33 East Gregory
Street, Pensacola, FL, on Saturday, November 16, 2002, at 1:30 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to The First Presbyterian Church,
33 East Gregory Street, Pensacola, FL 32501, or to the Lions Metrosight Clinic, 3103
North "H" Street, Pensacola, FL 32501.
The family wishes to express gratitude to Covenant Hospice, and to Dr. Frank Andrews,
Dr. J. W. Weaver, the wonderful nurses and staff of their offices, and to Baptist
Hospital and the nurses who provided care and comfort for Jack and to his family
during his hospitalizations.
